Tibetan Mastiff

Primarily a guard dog used both to protect flocks and to deter intruders, the Tibetan Mastiff is a powerful, heavy boned, well-coated dog. In his native environment he is ferocious, aggressive and unpredictable, however careful selection by breeders in Europe and the USA has resulted in a more placid, tolerant and easy-going dog.

Strength and great substance, endurance and temperament were key factors to be inherent in this breed to enable them to fulfil their purpose, which they continued to do until relatively recent times.

Like all flock guardians, the Tibetan Mastiff is intelligent and stubborn to a fault, obedience training is highly recommended for this is a strong-willed, powerful breed.
