Newfoundland

Almost certainly not originally an entirely native North American breed, and possibly a descendant from early mastiff types which crossed the polar regions with travelling tribes, this gentle giant is a water loving, robust, docile companion.

The Newfoundland has worked alongside fishermen, helping to haul in nets and carrying boat lines to shore, he has also been employed to haul loads and pull carts. The Newfoundland  was, and still is, an outstanding instinctive water rescue dog, many people owe their lives to members of this strong, peaceful breed.

The Newfoundland is a large, and somewhat slobbery dog with an outstanding, sweet temperament, courageous, generous and intelligent. A calm, patient dog, who is mild with guests, and obedient with its master. Devoted, loyal and trustworthy. Their huge body tends to move rather slowly. They rarely bark, but are protective and brave when they need to be.
