Neapolitan Mastiff

The native Mastiff of Italy and an ancient breed descended from the Roman Molossus, the Neapolitan Mastiff was developed as an arena fighting dog, but has more recently seen service as a war dog, police dog, guardian and draught dog.

The Neapolitan Mastiff is fearless and extremely protective of its home and family. They prefer to be with their family and to remain in and around the home at all times. The Neapolitan Mastiff rarely barks unless provoked and is renowned for sneaking up on intruders without first alerting them of its presence.

Neapolitan Mastiffs are an extremely large, high maintenance, time consuming, slobbery breed they are also devoted, loving, loyal, charismatic companions, gentle giants with their family, and a fearful foe to the intruder. This is not a breed that should be left alone, or chained outside nor will it respond well to harsh training methods.
