Komondor

Developed in Hungary to protect flocks from wolves and bears, the Komondor is a hardy, intelligent and independently minded breed. Loyally devoted to, and highly protective of, his family and his territory, the Komondor is a fearless guardian.

His heavy, corded coat, which allows him to blend in with sheep flocks and provides protection against harsh weather conditions, requires a considerable amount of care and attention. Cords begin to develop when puppies reach 6 to 10 months of age, and can take around 5 years to reach the desired length.

Strong, self-confident, and always alert, the Komondor will act with authority, boldly confronting any perceived threat. Not a breed for novice owners, the Komondor requires thorough, ongoing socialisation and firm leadership. The Komondor is not suited to living as a kennel or yard dog, he bonds closely with his family-flock and needs to be amongst them.
