Australian Kelpie

The Kelpie is considered one of the few truly Australian breeds, although his origins are believed to lie in Scotland. His ancestors include working collie types introduced into Australia, and probably the native wild Dingo among others.

The Kelpie is a highly skilled sheep dog which works instinctively with little guidance, often 'backing', jumping onto and running across the backs of a flock of sheep, to move in a direction required by the handler or to access areas inaccessible at ground level.
