Japanese Akita Inu

The UK Kennel Club separated the Akita and his close relative the Japanese Akita Inu in 2006. Akita Inu literally means 'large dog'. The Akita owes some of it's recent development to the USA, he is heavier and more substantial than the Japanese Akita Inu, which, of the two, is considered closer to the original type of dog bred in Japan. While the Akita can be an assortment of colours, the Japanese Akita has only four recognised colours and the breed standard is very specific about the permitted 'Urajuro' markings.

Loyal and faithful to his family, the Japanese Akita Inu is an independent character  and can be stubborn. He is extremely clean and learns quickly, however he can be aggressive with other dogs.
