Parson "Jack" Russell Terrier

The Reverend John "Jack" Russell, a founding member of the Kennel Club, bred a strain of working, fox hunting terrier widely considered to be among the finest strains of fox hunters in Devonshire.

These dogs became known as Parson Russell Terriers, Parson Jack Russell Terriers and Jack Russell Terriers. For some time the longer legged varieties were more commonly referred to as Parson terriers and the shorter legged types as Jack Russell terriers. In more recent times the UK Kennel Club, amongst others, has classified both types as the same breed under name Parson Russell Terrier, although away from the show ring, they are most often still referred to as Jack Russells.

The Parson or Jack Russell today is still a fearless, characterful dog who loves to dig, loves the sound of his own voice, and will give chase to almost anything that runs. They have seemingly limitless energy, will never back down and will challenge your authority with stubborn determination.
