Irish Terrier

Among the oldest of the terrier breeds, the Irish Terrier once sported coats in an assortment of colours, the solid red shades seen today became prominent in the late 19th century. Over the years he has been employed as both a guard dog and farm dog, as well as a messenger dog in the trenches during World War I.

Intelligent and courageous with an adventurous spirit, assertive and bold while remaining a friendly and playful. A loyal family companion with a loving disposition, reliable around children and possessing a delightful sense of humour the Irish Terrier can also be something of a reckless daredevil.

He is known to be somewhat hot-headed around other dogs and requires consistent and firm training, however this is unlikely to curb his aggressiveness where canine competition is concerned, nor is it likely to control his keen chase instinct with other small animals.
