Greater Swiss Mountain Dog

Considered the oldest and largest of the four Swiss Mountain Dogs, this large heavy boned breed was employed as an all-purpose farm dog in the Alpine regions of Switzerland.

Naturally confident and friendly the jovial, enthusiastic Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is happiest when spending time with his family. As a breed they are strongly dependant on people, craving attention and physical contact. Stubborn but willing to please, they respond well to gentle but firm training methods and thrive on attention and praise.

The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is a breed that grows very quickly, but develops and matures very slowly. His short double thick coat requires regular brushing to remove loose undercoat. During hot weather, extra care is required to prevent over-exposure and heat stroke.
