Great Dane

Handsome and elegant, dignified and noble, the regal Great Dane is a gentle giant with a friendly nature and gentle disposition. Originally developed in Germany to hunt wild boar, the Great Dane of today has a protective but non-aggressive temperament and a sweet, steady manner.

A true giant amongst dogs, the Great Dane makes a remarkably good house dog, and needs human companionship. Despite his size, he thinks of himself as a lap dog and will certainly not thrive when kept alone for long periods or as an outside dog.

Since ear cropping has been banned by many countries Great Danes are more commonly seen with naturally dropped ears. Intelligent and highly trainable, with positive reinforcement and a gentle hand, the sensitive Great Dane makes an excellent family companion.
