Dogue de Bordeaux

A large, powerful, impressive dog with a distinctively large head, the Dogue de Bordeaux, or French Mastiff, is surprisingly agile and athletic. The strength of this breed has been employed in a number of ways over the years, including hauling heavy loads, pulling carts, hunting, guarding and fighting.

Loyal and protective and self-assured, the Dogue de Bordeaux is generally calm tempered and rarely needs to show aggression, they can however be stubborn and wilful so early training and socialisation are essential.

Adult Dogues require adequate exercise to maintain their overall fitness. They do not tolerate heat well because of their short muzzle, exercise should be confined to the cooler parts of the day during hot weather and they should always have a shady area in the house or garden to retreat to.
