The Scottish Deerhound is similar in appearance to the Greyhound, but larger and more heavily boned with a rough, weatherproof coat. A dignified, gentle and extremely friendly breed which is famed for being docile and eager to please.
The temperament of the Deerhound is excellent. Nervousness is rare, and aggression almost unknown. Once the boisterous puppy stage has passed they are normally the most gentle of dogs with family and strangers alike.
Typically this is a breed which is quietly devoted to their owners, not at all attention seeking, and, as adults, normally content to be left alone for quite lengthy periods. It is however, still a sighthound at heart, and will give chase should the opportunity arise.
