Bullmastiff

A highly spirited and happy companion, devoted to his family, reliable and courageous, the Bullmastiff evolved from the Old English Mastiff and the Bulldog and was primarily used by gamekeepers as a guard dog.

These large, powerful, and undeniably slobbery dogs need to be socialised from an early age. They are not happy as living alone as outdoor or kennel dogs nor kept away from human company. They can be territorial and will protect what is considered theirs. The  Bullmastiff's short nose and short coat prevents him from tolerating extremes of temperature, and they are known to be loud snorers.

Gentle with and tolerating of children the sheer size of the Bullmastiff can be an issue, as even a friendly paw can be enough to topple an infant. Children should be supervised around, and taught to have respect for any dog, especially so when that dog weighs up to 130lbs
