Basset Hound

The Basset Hound is an extremely loyal, placid and affectionate breed with a deep melodious voice. A solid working hound, with a persistent nose, strong pack instinct and tremendous capacity for endurance, what he lacks in height he more than compensates for in mass.

Despite his short stature, averaging around 15 inches at the shoulder, the Basset Hound weighs in around 70 pounds (32kg), so not a small dog by any standards.

Ever the gentleman, the Basset Hound has a calm, sweet demeanour and a tolerant nature, making him a great overall family pet. Like other hounds, the Basset Hound does have a stubborn streak, but is generally willing to please.

They can be somewhat inactive indoors but outdoors they will run for hours if given the chance. Basset Hounds should be given plenty of exercise, but discouraged from jumping. While their short coat requires minimal grooming, ears and skin folds should be checked and cleaned at least weekly.
