Anatolian Shepherd Dog

A tall, faithful flock-guardian, highly prized in his native Turkey, the Anatolian Shepherd is tough, powerful but often remarkably gentle breed.

He is a vigilant watch-dog and a fiercely protective guard, affectionate with his family and deeply devoted to his master. Generally very good with children, especially those he deems under his protection, but sometimes intolerant of other dogs. Wary of strangers, who will be regarded with suspicion, even well known visitors are likely to find their way quietly blocked when wandering around his territory unaccompanied.

The Anatolian Shepherd is a courageous, determined and independently minded dog, a rewarding friend given firm consistent leadership, but not ideal for the novice dog owner.
